MARUDI: The plan to build a new health clinic in Long San, Ulu Baram must go on since the proposed Baram dam project has been revoked and cancelled.

Dr Roland Dom Mattu, the independent candidate for Mulu said the plan to build a new clinic in Long San to replace the Long San Missionary Clinic was previously put on hold because the proposed site was located within the proposed mega dam.

“Now that the previous state government has revoked the construction of the mega dam, the plan for the new clinic should no longer be put on hold,” he said when met here yesterday.

He added the new state government after this state election must prioritise health care services for the people especially those in the rural areas.

“It is crucial that we have easy access to not only clinic but also professional health care services,” he said.

On another note, Dr Roland said he was thankful to the chief minister for listening to the voices of the majority of people in Baram, especially those who would have been affected by the construction of the Baram dam should the government proceeded with it.

He said he was among thousands of local people including Kenyahs, Kayans and Penans in the area who were against the construction of the dam over the past few years.
