KAPIT: Community leaders in Kapit turned up in full force at a recent ‘BN Parade’ held in the town to demonstrate their full support to BN candidate for Bukit Goram Jefferson Jamit Unyat.

The event was organised by the PBB Bukit Goram pro tem Committee to introduce Jamit to the voters in this newly created seat where he is facing DAP’s Larry Asap in the May 7 polls.

Bukit Goram has 11, 510 registered voters comprising Dayaks 72.8 per cent, Chinese 19. 7 per cent, Malay/Melanu 5.6 per cent, others 1.9 per cent.

Addressing the parade, Nanta urged voters in the new constituency to vote for the Barisan Nasional and ensure Bukit Goram became a BN stronghold.

“We must stay with the government. We need assistance from the government to implement infrastructure and amenity projects. I urge the voters to turn up in full force to vote for BN in Bukit Goram on 7 May to ensure big majority win,” he said.

Jamit, in his speech, thanked all BN supporters and Bukit Goram constituents and assured that he would work hard to bring more development to Kapit if elected.

He noted that Bukit Goram still needed more infrastructures and amenities such as electricity and piped water supplies.

He also called on supporters of former SWP president Larry Sng to come back to the BN fold and support him in this election.

“Larry is very much a BN man and he has made a wise decision not to contest against the BN in this election. He knows without the BN support, he has no way to serve the constituents because Kapit is still lagging in development.  Therefore, his supporters should come back to us and support the BN in the election,” he advised.

Also present were Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi, his wife Datin Angelina Ujang, former Federal Minister of Sarawak Affairs, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr Leonard Linggi Jugah, Temenggong Datuk James Jimbun Pungga, Temenggong Tan Kian Hoo, Pemanca Yong Thu Fook, Pemanca Haji Wasli Nor, Penghulu Haji Abang Hamzah Bolhassan, Penghulu Enggin Nyipa, Penghulu Nylong Daga, Penghulu Wong Kie Ing, Penghulu Sia Shui Poh and Chairman of Kapit Chinese Chamber of Commerce Datuk Yong Hua Sying.
