Penguang says hello to a Kenyah lady selling vegetables at the market.
MARUDI: Datu Dr Penguang Manggil, the Barisan Nasional candidate for Marudi, yesterday received very encouraging and positive response from the Chinese traders at Marudi Federal Market in Kampung Cina here.
During his visit to the market, Penguang and his team sat down for a breakfast with the Chinese community who were present.
He and BN component party members also visited the Town Square where he appealed to those they met to vote for BN in the May 7 polls.
Starting the walkabout as early as 7.30am, they also visited all the shopkeepers in the town, who declared their support to Penguang.
This was unlike the previous elections when it was a rare sight to see the Chinese here show their support to BN.
Meanwhile, Penguang expressed his gratitude to Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem for having trust in him by naming him as the BN candidate for Marudi.
However, he acknowledged that Marudi is a hot seat; thus he called on the local people to vote for him and BN so that Team Adenan can continue to administer the state.
“I am appealing to the Malays and Chinese here to give me full support so that I can become your ‘wakil rakyat’ (representative). The Prime Minister and the Chief Minister have plans for more development in Marudi within the next five years so it important that you vote for BN,” he said.
Those accompanying him for the walkabout were SUPP Marudi chairman Lau Ka Lian, Cr Joseph Tiong, SPDP Telang Usan chairman Cr Wan Lah, SPDP Marudi chairman Chua Pek Kang and his wife Datin Monica Ukong Jaya.
