KUCHING: Four parties and all 35 independent candidates failed to secure any seat in the 11th Sarawak state election which ended last night.

The parties are Parti Islam Se-Malaya (PAS), Parti Amanah Rakyat, State Reform Party (STAR) and Parti Bangsa Dayak Sarawak Baru (PBDSB). Barisan National (BN) swept 72 seats, followed by Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) (3) and Democratic Action Party (DAP) (7).

“Voter turnout for the election is at 70.1 per cent including postal and early voters; or 1,109,795 voters, for the 80 seats contested. We are satisfied with the smooth voting process and no untoward incidents happened during polling day,” said Election Commission (EC) chairman Datuk Seri Mohd Hashim Abdullah during a press conference at the State EC headquarters at 11pm last night.

“The Election Commission has done its best to make this state election the best and will study all weaknesses and will improve it for the next election,” he added.
