Over 100 golfers expected for S’wak Amateur Open

KUCHING: The 47th edition (men) and 28th edition (women) of the Sarawak Amateur Open Golf Championship will be held at the Sarawak Golf Club (KGS) from May 27-29.

A brand new Honda Accord 2.0 VTI worth RM138,625 is the prize for a hole-in-one at Hole 3 Matang.

Tournament director Ting Bang Kong said he is expecting over 100 golfers to register to compete.

Invited guests shall play on May 29. Richard Wong is the tournament’s main sponsor.

There will also be prizes of items worth RM10,000 by Ng Soo Tian for those who score par 3s on Matang/ Santubong and Siol/ Demak holes.

According to Ting, three referees will officiate at the event with male golfers playing in blue while female golfers in red tees.

Organisers believe that Sukma-bound golfers from all over the country will be registering as they may want to try out the course which is the designated venue for the Sukma competition in July.

A trophy handing over ceremony was held at KGS yesterday attended by Ting, Wong, Sarawak Golf Association (SGA) president Hoan Kee Hock, SGA secretary Shahary Alias, KGS captain Dr David Ling and KGS general manager KR Devindran.
