KUCHING: Some 7,000 people participated in the ‘Sarawak Volunteers, Walk of Love’ held by the Ministry of Welfare, Women and Community Wellbeing at Le’park here yesterday.

Children, the elderly and disabled from various agencies participated in the purple-themed event and joined in the 2km or 3km walk flagged off at 7.40am by the Chief Minister’s wife Datin Patinggi Dato Jamilah Anu.

The ‘Walk of Love’ held for the third time was organised in support of the 18 editions of the Malaysia Paralympics Games 2016, which will be hosted in Sarawak from Aug 5 to 12 this year.

The event aims to promote and cultivate a healthy lifestyle among society while encouraging Paralympics athletes who will represent Sarawak in the National Paralympics Games.

“We have to give them morale support so they can do well, not only for Sarawak but Malaysia as a whole,” she said.

Jamilah thanked the ministry, NGOs and sponsors for making the event a success.

She launched the official logo and song for the 18 editions of the National Paralympics Games during the event. Other activities were zumba, lucky draws and colouring contest.Present was Minister of Welfare, Women and Community Wellbeing, Datuk Fatimah Abdullah.
