SIBU: Nangka assemblyman Dr Annuar Rapaee said he would support the Sibu BN Visionary Team if it was revived.

He felt it was opportune to revive the team as it succeeded in making Sibu vibrant in the past.

“That is a great idea, and we should restart the visionary team because it was mooted by the late Datuk Robert Lau and it benefitted the people.

“Further, three of the five state seats here are now in the hands of the BN,” he told reporters after an appreciation dinner for election workers for Nangka on Saturday.

Last month, Bawang Assan assemblyman Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh touched on the possibility of reviving the visionary team.

Previously, the team had five assemblymen and two MPs, and under the leadership of Wong, the team transformed Sibu into an economic hub and vibrant town.

Besides Wong, the members of that team were Vincent Goh, Datuk Dr Soon Choon Teck, Datuk Tiong Thai King, Daniel Ngieng, Datuk Awang Bemee Ali Basah, and the late Datuk Robert Lau.

Meanwhile, Dr Annuar opined that his big win in the 11th state election on May 7 meant he had to work harder to keep up with rising expectations.

“In the next five years, the expectations (among the people) will be higher. But the big majority (7,617 votes) I secured will constantly remind me to work hard for the people to repay the trust they have on me.”

In the 10th state election in 2011, Dr Annuar won the seat for the first time with a 5,302-votes majority.

At the dinner, the cardiologist, joined by his wife, Dr Haniza Zainal Abidin, his parents, Rapaee Tarip and Fatimah Othman, and Temenggong Datuk Wan Hamid Edruce jointly cut a cake with the number 7,617 placed on top to signify his winning majority in the 11th state election.
