Unduk Ngadau, concert are main attractions

KOTA KINABALU: The preparation for the 2016 State Level Kaamatan Festival at Hongkod Koisaan (KDCA) is proceeding smoothly.

The State level Kaamatan Main Implementing Coordination Committee (MICC) chairman, Datuk Clarence Bongkos Malakun, said various activities had been planned at the venue from now until the end of May.

The launch of the 2016 State Level Kaamatan Festival on May 30, he disclosed, would be officiated by the Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Musa Haji Aman while the closing ceremony would be officiated by the Head of State, Tun Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Juhar Haji Mahiruddin on May 31.

Among the events that are already taking place at the Hongkod Koisaan are the sale of food, including traditional ones.

“We are encouraging members of the public to visit the Hongkod Koisaan and sample the various food on sale there presently,” he said.

Also taking place today is the Sugandoi competition at 7 pm.

Other attractions at the State level Kaamatan Festival are the KDCA Kaamatan concert scheduled to take place on May 28, which will feature students from throughout Sabah, as well as the cultural houses, traditional performances and so on.

The main attraction will be the selection of this year’s Unduk Ngadau which will be participated by 44 contestants from 44 districts. The Sodop Unduk Ngadau will be held on May 29, while the finals will be held on May 31.

Clarence expects the upcoming event to attract people from all walks of life, as well as foreigners visiting the State. At the same time, he also urged youths visiting the venue to practise moderation.

“Be merry but don’t go overboard with drinking. Take care of your safety and your health,” he advised.

Also present at the press conference were KDCA honorary secretary, Datuk John Anthony, Sabah State-level Unduk Ngadau chairperson, Joanna Kitingan and Sabah State-level Level Sugandoi chairperson, Evaristus Gungkit.
