Four charged for murder, offences made during drinking session

KUCHING: Four persons including a woman detained in connection with a murder case at Bandar Baru Semariang two weeks ago were brought to court for various charges yesterday.

They are Kenneth Joe Ngalan, 31, Gilbert Bandan Kedini, 19, Joshua Raga, 19 and the woman Mira Riang, 20.

Kenneth was accused of causing the death of Satiban Polis, 20, in his first charge for which he faces imprisonment up to 30 years and fine upon conviction.

In his second charge, he allegedly caused hurt to Joshua.

His two cases were mentioned before Judge Dayang Ellyn Narisa Abang Ahmad who fixed Aug 15-17 and Sept 19-23 for the trials. The cases will be mentioned again on June 22.

The court denied him bail.

DPP Poh Yih Tinn prosecuted.

Gilbert faces two charges of voluntarily causing hurt with a parang to Nganang Atat and Johson Kwang, and is facing a charge under Section 324 of the Penal code which provides for up to 10 years in prison and a fine or whipping if convicted.

The court released him on RM10,000 bail with his parents as sureties.

Female accused Mira faces three charges for committing mischief by smashing the windscreens of three vehicles under Section 427 of the Penal Code which provides for up to five years in jail or a fine.

Joshua was charged with causing hurt to another person.

All the offences were allegedly committed at Lorong Cahaya Damai, Bandar Baru Semariang here around midnight on May 16 this year.

ASP Austin Patrick Angkon and Inspector Hisham Junaidi prosecuted in the cases mentioned in the magistrates court.

The incidents allegedly took place during a drinking session at an event involving two groups. They were believed intoxicated during the altercation.

Initially 11 persons, aged 15 to 60 years old, were detained.
