KUCHING: SUPP president Senator Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian said he was told by UPP not to reveal anything about the lunch meeting with their (UPP) leaders recently.

UPP president Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh claimed that Dr Sim was hiding the fact.

Dr Sim, through a press statement, said UPP group told him that it was a private lunch and that he should not leak it. He said he kept the promise and did not say anything about it and he did not understand why Wong came out with another version of the story.

The Minister of Local Government explained that the lunch meeting with Wong and UPP secretary general George Lo was arranged by SUPP honorary chairman Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri George Chan and prominent businessman Tan Sri Ling Chiong Ho. The six persons who attended the lunch included Ling’s close friend Datuk Wee Kok Tiong.

Dr Sim said the lunch was a private function and that they were not representing any political party.

He did not deny that they talked about party matters and he kept the agreement to keep it ‘secret’ but Wong did not keep his words.

Wong was quoted in yesterday’s news reports to have chided Dr Sim for dismissing that both of them had met for a ‘lunch or dinner session’ recently.

According to him (Wong), there was indeed such a session which was personally arranged by former SUPP president Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan.

“Dr Sim told reporters that they were mistaken about the ‘lunch or dinner session’. But the session was personally arranged by Datuk Patinggi Dr George Chan. We did have the session,” he told a press conference at UPP headquarters here on Thursday.
