SIBU: Sarawak Federation of Women’s Institute (PPWS) has been urged to involve the community in their activities in order to be close to the people.

Assistant Minister for Science Research and Biotechnology Dr Annuar Rapaee said as PPWS has branches in various places, they can easily connect with people in their surroundings.

He suggested each of the 13 branches here roll out an activity every month with others giving support.

He said since PPWS organises activities for its members, it would be good if the activities involved the surrounding community.

“I want them to be more pro-active in knowing and helping the people,” Dr Annuar told reporters.

He suggested that PPWS hold health screening programme for women and visit old folks’ homes.

The Nangka assemblyman was met after officiating at PPWS Bahagia Jaya 1 Retro and Musical Nite on Sunday.

He assured that he would help to finance PPWS activities that reach out to society.

On another matter, he noted that the women folk had played an influential role in the just concluded state election.

Citing his own experience, he said the women were very hard working and passionate and

they were easy to interact with, adding that he recognised women had played very important role in influencing voters.

Thus he said he wanted their role to be further strengthened and would like to see that more women are included in this process in the next parliamentary election.

Dr Annuar also disclosed that a post mortem for Nangka constituency was conducted on Sunday for PBB to determine the limitations, issues or weaknesses of their machinery in the recently concluded state election.

Another round will be held soon to discuss ways to carry out rectifications, he said.

“This is very important for preparing for the next parliamentary election because Nangka wants to go all out to make sure our machinery is in tip-top condition to wrest Sibu parliamentary seat,” he said.

Earlier, PPWS Bahagia Jaya 1 chairperson Noor Faridah Rusdi said the gathering was to cement the bonding among members.

Among those present were for Sibu, Sarikei, Kapit and Mukah PPWS chairperson Ummu Hanie and PPWS Sibu district chairperson Maimunah Yusup.
