Temperature rising over canine nuisance

SIBU: Residents of Poh Yew Road are fuming over the number of stray dogs overturning garbage bins left overnight at the roadside for collection.

These dogs would scavenge through the garbage bins leaving the rubbish strewn on the road.

The stray dogs would also carry some of the leftover food and dumped them in front of the residential houses or even inside the compound of the houses.

The scene is almost similar at many feeder roads where stray dogs roam freely posing a danger to residents there .

As the Sibu Municipal Council does not have a unit for rounding up stray dogs, the onus is on the house owners to prevent the animals from getting to the contents of their bins.

One resident of Poh Yew Road suggested the house owners ensure that the garbage bins were properly covered to prevent the dogs from getting the garbage left inside the bins.

“With a proper cover for the garbage bin, the dogs will not find it easy to carry away the garbage,” she said.

The resident said house owners who do not have proper garbage bins should apply for it by contacting Sibu Municipal Council on phone 084 333411.

“They can look for the Mobile Garbage Bin department and apply to get one. This is very easy,’ she added.
