SIBU: Preparations are underway for the 2nd edition of the Sibu-10 Brother Albinus Rugby Cup at SMK Sacred Heart Rugby field on Aug 6 and 7.

According to Sibu Division Rugby Union (SDRU) chief coach Michael Ting, players are looking forward to the tournament to honour the late principal of Sacred Heart School who was instrumental in developing rugby in Sarawak.

“We aim to make this tournament a truly challenging, interesting and a memorable one as the name of the tournament itself carries a lot of weight,” he said.

“Last year, we had 12 teams from throughout the state. We hope to maintain the same number this year.”

If there are over 12 teams, he added, organisers might have to divide them into four groups from the usual three.

SDRU will be sending two teams, Sibu Swan and Sibu Swallow.

Last year, Sibu Swan routed Kuching Black Cats 48-0 to lift the inaugural title.

Organisers are also considering offering prizes in cash, trophy and medals.
