PADAWAN Municipal Council vice-chairman Dr Zaiedi Suhaili has been appointed a senator to replace Dayang Madinah Tun Openg by members of the State Legislative Assembly after no objection was made.

His appointment was proposed by Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg and seconded by Minister of Youth, Sports and Solidarity Dato Sri Michael Manyin.

He will replace Dayang Madinah whose term of service expires on July 18, 2016. Abang Johari proposed Zaiedi because the 60-year-old had vast experience in administration and politics.

“Zaiedi, who is currently PMC vice-chairman, once served as a political secretary to the late Tan Sri Datuk Amar Sulaiman Daud in several ministries at federal level such as the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Agriculture and the Prime Minister’s Department,” he told the August House yesterday.

“In politics, he is currently PBB Tupong branch deputy chairman and previously also held positions as PBB Tupong Youth chief and PBB Satok Youth committee member,” he said, adding that Zaiedi was also very active in non-governmental organisations such as Sarawak United National Youths Organisation (Saberkas) and Sarawak Bumiputera Entrpereneurs Chamber (DUBS).

Meanwhile, Zaiedi when met at the DUN lobby yesterday said he would try his best to serve as a Senator throughout his three-year term in representing Sarawak in the senate.

“First of all, I want to thank Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem for having the confidence in me to serve as a member of the senate. With my experience in the political field and government service, I will try my best to serve as a senator.”
