MIRI: Miri City Council (MCC) is extending the deadline for application of subsidised household trash bins to Aug 31 this year.

Mayor Lawrence Lai said the decision for the extension came because of the encouraging response from many house owners who settled the first-half of the annual rate assessment on May 31, which was also the original deadline for the application of the trash bins.

“We have so far received some 8,000 applications for the bins – half of which have been delivered while the rest are still in the process to be distributed,” he told reporters after attending MCC’s ‘Meet the People Session’ at the Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) here yesterday.

Adding on, Lai called on 45,000 house owners who had yet to submit their applications for the bins to do so by the end of August. He also said the provision of the subsidised household bins was the council’s incentive for the ratepayers in recognition of their continuous commitment and cooperation in settling their assessment rates according to schedule.

“This project, run by MCC City Services Permanent Standing Committee, is aimed at easing the people’s economic burden. The market price for such trash bin is more than RM200 per unit. Under this programme, you only need to pay RM50 to MCC to bring home a 120-litre, two-wheeled bin for residential usage.”

However, Lai also reminded the applicants that they would need to meet certain terms and conditions to enjoy the subsidy.

“They must not have any arrears on their assessment rate bills, which must also be up-to-date. They must also settle the payment of first and second half (assessments) of 2016 before the closing date (Aug 31 this year).”

Lai said to facilitate the application for the subsidised bins, MCC would set up counters in the weekends – beginning with Boulevard Shopping Mall here on June 11-12, June 18-19, and June 25-26; Permy Mall (July 2-3, July 9-10, July 16-17, July 23-24 and July 30-31); and Imperial Mall (Aug 6-7, Aug 13-14, Aug 20-21, and Aug 27-28). These counters would be open from 10am to 5pm.

“These counters at the shopping mall are only meant for the house owners to fill in the application forms. The RM50 payment has to be made at UTC Miri,” Lai said, adding that once the application had been approved, the bin would be delivered to the house owner within 30 days from approval date.

“Those wanting to collect the bins themselves are welcome to do so by going to Well Clean (Miri) Supplies Sdn Bhd at Lorong 1, Jalan Krokop 1 here.

“They must bring along their application forms with payment receipts to claim their bins. As each bin is printed with respective house lot number, it is important for every house owner to call the company first so that it could prepare the items prior to collection,” he added.
