KUCHING: Having the right ingredients are important for a harmonious and united society, said Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg.

“Just like preparing ‘bubur lambuk’, we cannot have the wrong ingredients as the taste may become different or extreme. That is why we involve our young people in the preparation of ‘bubur lambuk’ during Ramadan, so that they can mingle with the local community, whether Muslims or non-Muslims,” he said at the Saberkas-Bernas Bubur Lambuk Roadshow that kickstarted at Masjid Darul Aqsa in Kpg Segedup, Batu Kawa yesterday.

Abang Johari, who is also Saberkas president, added that it was also important to train the younger generation, be it in politics or business.

Meanwhile, Public Utilities Assistant Minister and Saberkas secretary-general Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said this was the 13th year Saberkas was working with Bernas Sarawak in distributing bubur lambuk during Ramadan.

“This year we are holding the roadshow at 45 locations throughout the state. This year Satok is chosen as the host to launch the roadshow.

“With the element of gotong royong, the preparation of bubur lambuk gets the local youths to be involved.

“We also hope more organisations from the corporate sector will collaborate with Saberkas in organising the event,” he said.

Bernas Sarawak contributed RM30,000 to the roadshow this year.

Also present were Housing Assistant Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah and Bernas Sarawak general manager Lokman Halim Sabu.
