KUCHING: The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) has been praised for building a house for a fire victim in a short time.

Speaking to reporters on Saturday, Assistant Minister of Public Utilities (Electricity and Telecommunications) Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said the project was under the Seventh National Blue Ocean Strategy (NBOS7), and Bomba was tasked to build the house.

“Bomba did a magnificent job in constructing this house. We hope to collaborate with Bomba again to building more houses for fire victims at Seberang Hilir areas this year.”

On May 11 last year, Sharifah Mastura Wan Hussain’s house was razed by fire. Before the episode, she was living with her husband, who is suffering from a stroke, and 11 other family members, including a special-needs grandchild.

She received the key to her new house from Dr Abdul Rahman on Saturday during a simple ceremony at Kampung Sourabaya Ulu.

State Bomba director Nor Hisyam Mohamad said his men took 24 days to build the house—the fastest ever built by the department, so far.

He said the money for building houses in Sarawak and Sabah under the NBOS7 initiative was given by the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development and the Implementation Coordination Unit of the Prime Minister Department.

“We have completed constructing three NBOS7 houses, in Lundu, Mukah and Limbang. We are also involved in constructing four more houses, in Simunjan, Betong and Sibu.”
