THE state government has set up three cabinet committees to monitor and undertake intervention action plans in order to transform the state with greater focus and more immediate delivery.

The three committees are Socio-Economic Transformation; Rural Transformation; and Performance and Service Delivery Transformation.

They will be chaired by the three deputy chief ministers, namely Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing and Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg respectively.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem said the committee under Uggah was tasked to look into intervention in the development plan, including looking into areas of federal funding, new economic development opportunities, entrepreneurship, employment opportunities, modernisation of agriculture, NCR land development, research and development (R & D) and other social and economic-related matters.

He said the committee under Masing had been tasked to look into all areas of rural transformation, which includes roads, water, electricity and telecommunication connectivity, transportation and safety, flood mitigation, environmental issues, resettlement due to mega projects, rural transformation programmes (RTP), Penan affairs, social welfare matters and the development of schools, hospitals and clinics in the rural areas.

“I would like to see the real statistics of all these rural infrastructure gaps and a five-year plan to address these gaps.”

On the Performance and Service Delivery Transformation Committee, Adenan said it was tasked to first look into devolution of power and empowerment and immediate negotiation with the federal government.

The committee is also expected to enhance the current initiative in the overall Sarawak Civil Service Transformation that started in 2010.

Adenan said members of the three cabinet committees would comprise cabinet members, assistant ministers and the State Secretary. They would be supported by a secretariat to be formed by the State Secretary.

“I would expect the first initial report of the three cabinet committees on August 15, 2016.”
