SANDAKAN: Two hundred and fifty-two illegal immigrants were nabbed in an integrated operation held around here from June 14 to 16.

A statement from the National Security Council (NSC) stated that out of the 252 arrested, 170 are Filipinos comprising 104 men and 64 women and 85 Indonesians comprising 72 men and 13 women.

All of the illegal immigrants were nabbed during an integrated operation led by NSC and other enforcement team from various agencies such as the Police, General Operation Force, Immigration Department, National Registration Department, Chief Minister’s Department and Civil Defence Department.

They were detained under Section 6(1)(c) and Section 15(1)(c) of Immigration Act 1959/63 Amendment 2002 and Immigration Rules for illegally staying in the country.

For the record, 1,762 illegal immigrants were nabbed since January this year.

As of now, 5,290 illegal immigrants are being held at Temporary Detention Centres around Sabah.
