KOTA KINABALU: Kinsabina organised a photography competition ‘Beautiful Sabandar’ at Sabandar in Tuaran.

Organised as part of its CSR program, this is to encourage the old and young to hone their photography skills and capture images that reflect its theme.

According to Kinsabina Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Francis Goh, “Photography is a medium of expression that can be used to communicate certain messages about a subject. This open and free photo competition is to inspire and portray the beautiful imagery of Sabandar, which is rarely seen by the public.”

More than 50 photo enthusiasts and budding photographers of all ages turned up to register and participated in the competition.

All participants were given a briefing on the terms and conditions and what to focus on.

There were four Unduk Ngadau beauty queens from Tuaran and Tamparuli 2015 and 2016 at the site and for those who are interested in the People Category.

The horse jockeys in full gear were also available for photoshoot at Sabandar Leisure Rides and at the beach.

The organizer facilitated all the participants with a complimentary one hour boat ride along Sabandar River to capture the beautiful river scenes. Lunch was provided for all the photographers at the Bamboo Restaurant.

All photo submissions need to be an 8R sized photo (8” x 10” or 8” x 12”) with a creative caption at the back of the photo written in English, Bahasa Malaysia or Mandarin, and there is no limit to the number of submissions per entrant.

The contestants are advised to submit as many photos as possible.

“We may use some of the photos in our brochure for our upcoming project, Aman Pesona Beachside Villas. Those selected photos will receive another RM100 per photo. Entries must also include a CD not more than 10MB of unpublished work of the participant with minimal digital manipulation that distorts the reality of the images.”

Goh added, “I look forward to discovering the best photographs that can tell a story in order to illustrate, inspire and inform. I will be looking for photos which feature the sandy beach nearby, beautiful sunset, river scenes, kampong lifestyles, fishing village, mangrove park, nature, Sabandar Horse Riding Centre, infrastructure within Sabandar, models in Lotud costumes and even the Mengkabong River or Mount Kinabalu.

“The criteria for judging will be based on the relation to the theme – how closely does the photography relate to the theme, how was the shot framed, at what angle was it taken from, what is the subject of the image, clarity and sharpness or difficulty in getting the shot. We will take all these into consideration.”

Cash prizes await the winners. The three top winners and 10 consolation prizes’ winners will be announced on Saturday, July 2 and the winning photographs will be posted in Kinsabina Group website.

The winning photographer will receive RM5,000 and the two runners up of the competition will receive RM3,000 and RM2,000 respectively plus 10 consolation prizes of RM500 each.

The organizer will contact the winners via their email given.

The judging consists of three rounds of evaluation based on creativity, photographic quality and authenticity of the content.
