SERIAN: A man was killed while two others were seriously injured following a two-car collision at KM65 Jalan Kuching-Sri Aman yesterday.

The deceased was identified by police as Abdul Malik Bohari, 43, of Jalan Kampung Hilir, Sibu.

District police chief DSP Chung Aik Peng said the incident happened around 11.30am when a Perodua Myvi and a Proton Iswara collided near Kampung Seroban.

“Initial investigation indicated that the Myvi, which was travelling from Sri Aman towards Serian town, went out of control and entered the opposite lane where it crashed with the oncoming Iswara.

“The driver of the Myvi was killed on the spot while a 19-year-old passenger and the 30-year-old Iswara driver both sustained fractured legs and head injuries,” he said, adding the surviving male victims were both rushed to the district hospital where they were warded.

District traffic police personnel were present at the scene to investigate the fatal crash and later transported the deceased to the district hospital mortuary for a post mortem.

Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) personnel were also deployed to extricate all three victims from the badly-wrecked vehicles after they were pinned to their seats following the crash.

Police are investigating the incident under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
