KUANTAN: Some 6,000 athletes and officials from throughout Malaysia and Brunei will converge on Sarawak for the 18th Sukma to be held from July 22 to 31.

Pahang and Terengganu will be sending more than 500 athletes and officials each for the forthcoming games. This was revealed by the Menteri Besar of both states to assistant Solidarity minister Rosey Yunus, who was leading the courtesy calls to state leaders in the east coast states of Peninsular Malaysia to officially invite them to attend and send their respective contingents to the Malaysian Games.

Terengganu’s Menteri Besar Dato Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman promised that his contingent would put up a strong fight to maintain its top three position in Sukma, and to wrest back the overall title it last won in 2012, after being the champions for four consecutive years since 2008.

While in Pahang, the delegation was received by its Menteri Besar Dato Sri Diraja Adnan Yaakob at Wisma Yayasan Pahang yesterday.

Other members in the Sarawak delegation were Land Custody and Development Authority (LCDA) chief executive officer (CEO) Datu Dr Sulaiman Husaini, Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) state director Nor Hisham Mohamad, Land and Survey deputy director Brahim Lumpu and officials from the Malaysian Sports Council and Sukma Sarawak secretariat.

LCDA will adopt the Terengganu contingent while Land and Survey Department will adopt the Pahang Team.
