Fire destroys 80 squatter houses in Kudat

KOTA KINABALU: About 80 squatter houses were razed to the ground at Kampung Tanjung Kapor, Kudat early today.

Sabah Fire and Rescue public relations officer Mohd Affendy K Ramin said the department dispatched 28 personnel in four fire trucks after receiving a distress call at 1.48am.

“The fire was put under control by 4.28am and extinguished by 7.08am,” he said in a statement.

He said there was no report of any fatality, and the cause and losses were being investigated.

Meanwhile, Kudat district officer Sapdin Ibrahim said, as of 12pm today, more than 100 affected families had registered with his office.

“As the registration is still going on, we expect the number to increase to 200,” he told Bernama when contacted.

He said the victims were temporarily sheltered at Dewan Serbaguna Kampung Tanjung Kapor.-BERNAMA
