KUALA PENYU: A Hari Raya outing to Bakaro beach here on Saturday afternoon turned tragic for a group of friends when one of them drowned.
The victim has been identified as Mohd Azzudin Azri@Ajol, 18, from Kampung Menumpang near here.
Mohd Azzudin had gone to the beach with his friends on Saturday and went missing as he was swimming.
District Fire and Rescue Service Department chief Awang Mohd Sabree said they received a distress call about 6.30pm and a search and rescue team was immediately dispatched to the beach.
“The team recovered Mohd Azzudin’s body at 7am on Sunday about 100 metres from where he was reported to have drowned.
“His remains have been sent to the district hospital,” he said when contacted yesterday.
