KUCHING: Preparations for UCSI University Sarawak Campus (UCSI Sarawak) to move into its new premises at the UCSI Hotel located at the Isthmus is progressing well, with the move expected to take place soon.

On July 14, UCSI chief operating officer (COO) Mukvinder Kaur Sandhu received the keys to their new campus from Yung Kong Construction Sdn Bhd managing director Ir. Micheal Kiew, witnessed by JRC Architects architect Chang Jih Ren during an official handover, a press statement stated.

Students and staff alike are enthusiastic about the upcoming move.

“We are very proud to see the outdoor signage prominently displayed,” Mukvinder said.

“It is a reminder to all the students and staff of UCSI Sarawak that this university is realising its ambition and starting a new chapter which we are now embarking upon together.”

The UCSI Hotel is taking shape just opposite the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) at the Isthmus Commercial Hub.

It will house the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management, Centre for Pre-U Studies, as well as the upcoming Faculty of Business and Information Science.

The campus is fully equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, including a housekeeping suite; laboratories for culinary, pastry and baking, gastronomy, chemistry and biology studies; lecture theatres, halls and rooms; tutorial rooms; recreation areas; a learning studio; a student lounge; and a library.

In the near future, students will also have access to other facilities, including a swimming pool, sauna, gym and more.

UCSI Sarawak started as Sedaya College at Jalan Haji Taha here before becoming a university college. It has been the only private university in Sarawak since 2008.

The development of the UCSI Hotel is a demonstration of its aspirations to become a praxis university, resulting in close interactions with businesses and key industry players.

The UCSI Hotel is the first phase of a major development project that is underway at the Isthmus.

Phase Two which is the construction of the adjacent university campus will begin after completion of Phase One and is projected to be completed by 2020.

In conjunction with UCSI University’s 30th Anniversary, the university will be awarding RM30 million worth of scholarships and bursaries to eligible students this year.

There are scholarships to be awarded from the following categories: UCSI University Trust Scholarship, UCSI University Trust Pre-U Scholarship, UCSI University Trust Education Grant and UCSI University Trust Financial Assistance.

The September intake is now open for registration.

Classes will commence on Aug 29 while orientation for new students is on Aug 23- 24.

The deadline for scholarship applications is Aug 6.

Students who are interested in registering are reminded to bring along their academic transcripts or result slips for enrolment.
