TAWAU: The Tawau Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) will begin operations on Aug 15, said Tawau Municipal Council (MPT) president Alijus Sipil.

He said keys would be handed over to agencies that would be operating at the UTC such as the Road Transport Department, the National Registration Department, the Health Ministry, Police, the Sabah Credit Corporation and the Immigration Department in stages, beginning yesterday.

“Keys for other businesses such as eateries will be handed over on Aug 16 and they will begin operations two days later,” he told Bernama when met at the MPT Aidilfitri open house, here yesterday.

He said MPT had also held a meeting with the agencies involved and all quarters were satisfied with the wide range of facilities available at the UTC.

“We are very satisfied with the facilities provided by the contractor and it is understood that the contractor is bound by a one-year defect liability period,” he said.

On the existing traders who were carrying out business at the bottom of floor of the UTC building, Alijus said they were not affected.

“However, he said the traders must improve the level of cleanliness in their respective areas,” he said.

The Tawau UTC building, formerly known as the Tanjung Market, is located in the heart of the Tawau city and has given a new look for the convenience of urbanites who had to carry out various transactions under one roof, once it begins operations.
