Water woes not our fault, says Tuaran Water Dept

KOTA KINABALU: The Tuaran Water Department clarified yesterday that the water woes faced by some 700 occupants of Taman Sri Rugading was not their fault.

Rather, the problem lies with the management of Taman Sri Rugading, said Chee Chun Chieh, Tuaran Water Department engineer when contacted by The Borneo Post, yesterday.

“The water pressure from our mains to their storage tanks is strong,” said Chee, showing photographs as proof.

He went on to say that the problem was the pump at Taman Sri Rugading.

“Their pump efficiency has dropped and need to be replaced. We met them together with the Tuaran District Council and have issued them a warning,” he said.

He added that the pump needed to be replaced but they had yet to despite the advice given to them by their maintenance pump supplier.

“We have contacted their supplier and have gotten that information from the supplier,” he said.

“The Tuaran District Council also got involved to pressure the management to do something. Now we can only wait for the company to act,” he said.

Chee also touched on the Taman Sri Rugading internal reticulated system and said he suspected that there were some valve failures.

“They need to check this as soon as possible. We have given them our comment and have warned them. We hope they can do it soon,” he said.

On July 24, it was reported that residents from Taman Sri Rugading had faced water shortage since July 4.

It was mentioned that they relied on rainwater and on the daily delivery by the Water Department for their water supply.
