KOTA KINABALU: Police have denied an armed robbery took place at University Utama Condominium (UUC) where two women were allegedly injured in the incident that went viral in the social media yesterday.

City police chief ACP M. Chandra said initial investigation revealed that the incident was a personal matter between the woman and her boyfriend and not a robbery as claimed in the social media.

He also said that police investigation at the scene found no traces of any robbery.

“Nothing was missing or stolen from the scene. Investigation also revealed that the incident had nothing to do with any robbery as claimed in the social media but was due to a personal matter between a couple which led to one of the victims to sustain injuries,” he said yesterday.

Chandra said police were still investigating the case after a woman, in her 30s, sustained injuries believed due to an argument with her partner.

“The victim has been admitted to Queen Elizabeth Hospital II (QEH II) where her condition is reported to be stable,” he said, adding that the case would be investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons.

Meanwhile, Chandra reminded the public to stop spreading rumours through Facebook and WhatsApp as it could bring negative impact to the community.

“Police have consistently reminded the public not to spread false information but to seek clarification first from the relevant authorities. We will not hesitate to take action against those who spread rumours and we will charge them in court accordingly,” he said.
