Man denies molesting niece

KOTA KINABALU: A man will stand trial on October 6 and 7 this year at the Magistrate’s Court here for allegedly molesting his niece.

Magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun set the date yesterday for the 33-year-old accused, who faces the charge under Section 354 of the Penal Code.

The indictment carries a maximum jail of 10 years or a fine and with whipping or with any two of such punishment, upon conviction.

The accused allegedly molested the 20-year-old victim at a house in a village in Putatan at 1.30pm on May 17.

In an unrelated case, a man and a woman were each fined RM1,300, in default, one month’s jail for separate charges of driving their vehicles while under the influence of alcohol.

Junaidi Lasong and Isabella Tania Andau pleaded guilty to their charges framed under Section 45A (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 which provides for a maximum fine of RM6,000 or with a jail term of up to 12 months, upon conviction.

The two accused were arrested during an operation at Jalan Lintas on February 7.
