KUCHING: Sarawak’s pair of Muhammad Saifullah Bustaman and Muhammad Akmal Rizal Mustapa won the bronze medal when they defeated Johor 13-10 in the third-place playoff of the petanque men’s doubles.
Prior to that, the duo did well to qualify for the semifinals but were beaten by Terengganu 13-2 in the match.
Terengganu went on to win the gold medal after Perak (silver medal) 13-11 in the men’s doubles final.
Held at the Petanque Complex in Kampung Santubong, the men’s and women’s doubles and singles were contested yesterday.
Apart from the men’s doubles team who nailed the bronze yesterday, Sarawak’s women’s team and men’s and women’s singles all lost their matches in the respective quarterfinals.
Medal pursuit in petanque continues today at the Petanque Complex with the men’s and women’s trio and mixed doubles events scheduled to be contested. — by Matthew Umpang
