Sarawak promises another grand show at Sukma 2016 closing ceremony

KUCHING: Colourful fireworks will once again light up the skies over Sarawak Stadium at Petra Jaya here during the grand closing ceremony of the 18th Malaysia Games (Sukma) 2016 tomorrow night.

According to the Information Department, those coming to the event will not only get to witness another show just as spectacular as – if not more than – the official opening of the Games, but they also have another chance to go home with a brand new Perodua Myvi 1.3 and an Axia 1.0.

“Moreover, three Demak motorcycles, four Acer laptop computers, four Sharp television sets, four Samsung smartphones and five Lerun mountain bikes are also up for grabs as lucky draw prizes,” it said in a release yesterday.

The evening of events will proceed soon after the arrival of Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, beginning with a ‘Kamek Anak Sarawak performance by artistes under the coordination of the state Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture.

Up next will be a video presentation on Sukma 2016, followed by the prime minister’s speech.

“The event will also announce the best male and female athletes, as well as the tournament’s overall champion contingent,” the department said.

Other highlights will the lowering of the Games flag and its handover to the next hosting state, Perak, as well as a special show by artistes from Perak.

The festivities will continue with performances by Sarawak’s very own crooner Bob of the AF fame, veteran artiste Jay Jay, Miss World 2014 finalist and model / singer Dewi Liana Seriestha, Iban recording star Ricky Andrewson and D Cipta Band.

Results of the lucky draws will be announced at the end of the official segment of the event.

“Free entry tickets, which also double as lucky draw tickets, will be given away to the public starting 4:30pm (July 31) at Gates A2, C1 and C2 of Stadium Sarawak,” the department said.
