KUCHING: A group of volunteers sponsored a cake and handed out gifts to celebrate the birthdays of those born in the months of July and August at Rumah Nur Murni, Batu Kawa, recently.

“The event was held to share the happiness and celebrate birthdays with less fortunate kids to bring smiles to their faces,” said Manjeet Sidhu, organiser of the ‘Sponsor-A-Cake’ initiative.

The ‘Sponsor-A-Cake’ event started in 2015 has been celebrated in Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) and Rumah Nur Murni so far. It is usually held every month of the year.

“I got the inspiration to start this programme when I first visited the orphanage. I wish to do this for more homes in time to come,” she said, adding that this was the ninth time the event had been organised at the home.

Present at the event was Sabati (Sarawak Badan Amal Tenaga Isteri-isteri) treasurer Siti Shorgayah Ahmad Zaidin.

Manjeet plans on organising more ‘Sponsor-A-Cake’ events at other places. The next sponsor a cake event will be in September.

Members of the public who wish to be part of the programme can sponsor cakes and gifts or items for the home by calling Manjeet at 014-692 6123.
