KUCHING: Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) will maintain its level of services even though assessment rates have been reduced.

The reduction in assessment rates for 2016 was approved by the State Cabinet for residential properties paying annual assessment rates of RM700 and below.

“There is a slight reduction for assessment rates, but this doesn’t mean that our services will lessen,” said Datuk Bandar Datuk Abang Abdul Wahap Abang Julai when met after DBKU’s monthly assembly yesterday.

In fact, the commission hopes that the local community will join in their efforts and initiatives to produce better services and results, he added.

On unpaid assessment rates, the mayor noted that there were such cases each year but it is not a big problem for DBKU and they will do what is necessary.

Meanwhile, the commission presented retirement awards to six staff and 25-years service awards to 17 people.

The retirees received certificates of appreciation and souvenirs while the service award recipients were presented with certificates of appreciation and Amanah Saham Bumiputera (ASB) investments worth RM500 each.

Abang Abdul Wahap thanked the recipients for their services rendered.
