KUCHING: Sixty-five individuals aged between 17 and 65 were collared and cash totalling RM17,355 were seized during 32 raids on gambling joints and cockfighting from Aug 8-14 across the state.

Fifty-two of those arrested are males, including two foreigners.

State CID chief SAC Dev Kumar said the 32 raids were the most in a single week so far this year.

“The raids resulted in the arrest of 65 individuals engaged in promoting public lottery without licence, online gambling and cockfighting,” he said in a press statement yesterday.

Twenty-seven of the raids were related to illegal character lottery, four were related to online gambling, and one on cockfighting.

Dev Kumar said 55 tablets used for online gambling were seized in Lubok Antu and Kuching while two gambling machines were seized in Kuching.

On the 27 illegal character lottery raids, he said various exhibits such as portable printers, mobile phones, calculators, betting ledgers and slips were seized.

“The cockfighting raid was conducted at Kampung Palas, Limbang, where 11 male individuals were arrested and four live cocks and three dead ones were seized.”

Dev Kumar said 12 of the raids were carried out by state CID headquarters, four by CID Bintulu, and two raids each by CID Padawan, CID Limbang and CID Sri Aman.

Other CID districts with one raid each were Kuching, Sibu, Miri, Kota Samarahan, Sarikei, Simunjan, Song, Marudi, Belaga and Lubok Antu.
