SARIKEI: A motorcyclist suffered a broken right leg and left hand in a collision with a car which somehow entered his path along Jalan Meruton/Merudu here yesterday morning.

The mishap happened around 6.30am when the motorcyclist, identified only as an 18-year old student by the police, was on his way to school.

District Police Chief, Supt Mat Jusoh Muhamad said that car driver blamed the poor condition of the road as the cause of the accident.

The 63-year old driver, who was sending his daughter to a primary school where she worked as a teacher, claimed that he lost control of his car after it hit a pothole and collided with an oncoming motorcycle after he entered the opposite lane.

The injured student had been sent in an ambulance to Sarikei Hospital, Mat Jusoh said, adding, the actual cause of the accident had yet to be determined as police were still investigating the case.
