KUCHING: The CMS Tribal Run 2.0 yesterday raised RM120,000, which was equally divided between 10 charity bodies.

All proceeds from the entry fees for the event – themed ‘Run for a Good Cause’ – were donated to the selected charities.

The recipients are Hope Place Kuching, SOS Kids, Sarawak Cheshire Home, Sarawak Hospice Society, Kuching Autistic Association, STEC Kidney Foundation, Sarawak Society for the Blind, Green Ribbon, Breakthrough Network and Barefoot Mercy.

“I would like to thank those who came and please come again next year,” said CMS Group managing director Dato’ Richard Curtis.

There were two routes – the 10km competitive run and the 5km fun run – and the race was divided in two categories, namely men’s open and women’s open.

The runners were flagged off at 6.30am for the 10km run, and 7am for the 5km, at the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) building, which served as the starting and finishing point.

Apart from landing a spot among the top 10 men and women finishers for the 10km race, runners waited patiently for the lucky draw after the presentation of donations and prizes.

CMS Group executive director Datuk Syed Ahmad Alwee Alsree was also present at the event.

The first CMS Tribal Run last year, with participation of 2,200 Kuchingites, netted RM103,104 which was donated to eight local charities.

This year’s race hosted 2,600 runners.
