BAU: The Borneo Hash House Hazards-Riettes managed to gather 65 participants for the hash run recently, held in conjunction with the Tasik Biru Festival near here.

Tasik Biru assemblyman Dato Henry Harry Jinep said the hash run came at the right time, in that it helped enliven the annual festival.

“We now have this healthy exercise (hash run) and we hope that the hashers would continue with their activities here (at Tasik Biru).

“I think this is the first that they (hashers) explore this area – the hill nearby the lakeside.

“Moreover, such activity could help develop Bau into a destination for sports tourism. It is a way to generate the local economy, enabling locals to be involved in business, event organising and recreational activities that promote healthy living,” he said, adding that it would be likely for the hash run to be a regular feature of the festival.

“Perhaps the next edition would be organised on a larger scale,” he said, noting that the hashers had also run their programme in Siniawan last year.

The assemblyman flagged off the 1.5km hash run at 4.30pm yesterday, which the runners took around 45 minutes to complete the route.

Meanwhile, the Hazard’s Hash Kuching Chapter founder William Ding said the local hashers had been conducting this programme every week since 2003.

“Seeing that it was Tasik Biru Festival, we the hashers took the opportunity to run around the scenic Tasik Biru. The 1.5km trail led to the hilltop and there, we could enjoy the panoramic view of the lake,” he said.
