KUCHING: Laos secured their semi-final ticket to the AFC Solidarity Cup after drubbing Mongolia 3-0 in their final Group B match at the Sarawak Stadium on Wednesday night.

In a do-or-die match, forward Sitthideth  Khanthavong opened accounts  for  Laos in the seventh   minute while   teammate Khouanta Sivongthong  added the second goal 14 minutes later for a 2-0 lead at half-time.

Substitute player Xaisongkham Champathong headed in Laos’ third goal in the 83rd minute to seal their place in the last four by finishing second in the group with six points from two wins and one defeat.

Meanwhile, Macau who had already booked their place in the semi-finals, played to a 1-1 draw with Sri Lanka in the other Group B match of the night at Stadium Negeri.

It was Sri Lanka who took the first lead in the fifth minute through striker Kavindu Ishan while Macau equalised through their substitute player Choi Weng Hou in the 86th minute.

Macau will next play Brunei in tomorrow’s semi-finals while Nepal will take on Laos in the other semi-final.
