KOTA KINABALU: The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has forged a partnership with its Philippines counterparts to tackle cross-border crime activities.
Sabah Police Commissioner, Datuk Abdul Rashid Harun, said a meaningful partnership was forged between Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar, and Philippines
police chief Ronald Marapon dela Rosa following the release of 23 names of wanted suspects by the Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCom) early this month.
“Yes, I together with an entourage and Tan Sri (Khalid) just returned from Philippines yesterday (November 23) and many meaningful things were discussed.
“I won’t reveal what it is, just wait and let it materialise,” he said yesterday.
Abdul Rashid said this after witnessing the handing over of duties of State Deputy Commissioner between outgoing DCP Datuk Awang Sahari Em Hadzeer and DCP Datuk Razarudin Husain @ Abd Rasid at the state police headquarters in Kepayan yesterday.
Abdul Rashid added that the 23 names of the wanted suspects were obtained following intelligence gathered and shared between ESSCom and their counterparts.
ESSCom released the details of the 23 suspects on November 12 and they are believed to be involved in cross-border crimes in the waters of Eastern Sabah Security Zone (ESSZone).
Most of the wanted suspects are Filipinos in their 30s who have stayed in the country for several years.
In yesterday’s event, Awang Sahari, who had served with the PDRM for 38 years, will be retired from the force effective today.
Awang Sahari served as Sabah Deputy Commissioner of Police for one year and seven months.
