KUCHING: Towns and villages from Kuching to Sibu plunged into total darkness at 6.38pm yesterday when both Oya-Selangau 275kV transmission lines tripped.

In a press statement, Sarawak Energy said work to restore the electricity supply started immediately, and full restoration was completed at 9.31pm.

Sarawak Energy said supply to the Central Region—Sibu, Sarikei, Song, Kapit, Tanjung Manis, Julau, Pakan and Bintangor—was fully restored within one hour after the tripping.

“Parts of the western Region—Kuching, Sri Aman, Betong, Saratok—were restored in stages, with most parts fully restored between one and two hours.”

Sarawak Energy is now investigating the cause of the outage and will engage an international consultant to independently verify the results of the probe.
