KOTA KINABALU: A mother lauded Mayor Datuk Yeo Boon Hai’s swift action on a “peeping tom” toilet signage at a coffee shop in Inanam.

The “satisfied” Inanam resident said replacing the logo of the signage, which had depicted a peeping tom climbing and spying on a woman in the toilet since 2010, was a priority as it would no longer project negative doings on the impressionable even though it was now only covered by a white patch.

“I applaud the mayor’s fast action to instruct his men to check on the issue highlighted,” said the 38-year-old.

“Hopefully other people can be the mayor’s eyes and execute their duties as a concerned citizen for our future generation,” she told the Borneo Post.

The mother, who confessed that she never uttered a word about the signage for several years, added that the public shouldn’t fear or shy away from taking proactive action for the good of the people, especially the younger generation.

Upon learning about the signage on November 28, Yeo dispatched City Hall officers to the eatery on the same day.

He said the officers had instructed the eatery to remove the toilet signage, which he deemed was too creative, innovative and inappropriate, but did not take action against the coffee shop as the issue was a matter of perception.
