LIMBANG: Team Limbang has taken another step towards qualifying for the national rounds after Kapit conceded a walkover in the first playoff match of Malaysian Football League ( LBR) Borneo Zone 2 last weekend.

The visitors failed to turn up at Limbang Sports Complex on Saturday and Limbang is looking forward to facing Serian next this Saturday (Jan 7).

Victory will propel them into the national rounds of competition.

Limbang topped Group 1 while Kapit and Serian led Group 2 and Group 3 respectively.

Two teams from Sarawak will enter the national rounds to be held at end of this month.

Kuching is the defending national champion in the league.

Limbang Football Association secretary and team manager Abdul Ajis Kon Mohd Ghazali is optimistic despite having to draw on the second tier of players.

“The performance so far is already a historical achievement for LFA and Limbang as our team is just one match away from entering the national competition,” he said.

Top players were absent as they were attending selection  trials for the Youth and President Cups competition.

The Malaysia People’s Football League is the fourth-tier football league in Malaysia.

The  amateur-level tournament was established in 2015 to provide an alternative entry point for young players.
