MIRI: A Form 4 student suffered a broken left leg after she jumped out of a moving car in a bid to escape being raped.

Prior to the incident, the victim went out with two youths, who were said to be her friends.

While in the car heading towards Kampung Batu 1, one of the suspects, who was in the back seat with her, allegedly sexually harassed the girl, leading her to ask to be taken home.

When both suspects refused to bring her home, the teen became frightened and made her escape.

“The victim made the decision to jump out of the moving car, which caused her broken leg,” said Miri police chief ACP Khoo Leng Huat, adding that she also suffered cuts on both hands.

“Both suspects then drove the victim to Miri Hospital for treatment.”

Khoo said the victim’s 37-year-old mother filed a police report on Monday. The first suspect, aged 18, was arrested at his house in Promin Jaya, Senadin at 11.50pm on Monday.

Police also seized a car from the suspect.

Following the arrest of the first suspect, police were led to the second suspect, aged 19, who was picked up from a house at Jalan Chia Tze Chin around 1.30am yesterday.

Police are investigating the case under Section 376/511 of the Penal Code for attempted rape.
