SIBU: A senior member of Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industries Sarawak, Dr Gregory Hii Sui Cheng, yesterday described the demise of Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem as a big loss to Malaysians.
Hii regarded Adenan as a great statesman who came only once in a while, and said Sarawak was fortunate to have him as chief minister though only for a short while.
“We will remember him for his openness, for his prudent policies and for being fair to all communities in Sarawak,” he said, emphasising that Adenan was indeed the chief minister for all Sarawakians.
He said it was not difficult for many to come to the conclusion that Adenan was an inclusive leader who had Sarawakians’ interest at heart.
“He was methodical and consistent in his approach, always trying to extract the best deals for Sarawak, fair to all races, committed to integrity, careful to avoid being caught in a conflict of interest and deeply concerned with the preservation of the environment.”
