MIRI: The unexpected passing of Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem at the Sarawak General Hospital Heart Centre in Kota Samarahan about 1.20pm yesterday is a huge loss to the people, especially those in rural areas.

Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau said this when contacted yesterday, adding that Adenan’s passing was a great shock not only to him but also the people in his constituency. “Adenan was well-loved and respected by the community especially those in the rural areas. During his term, he had been concentrating more on rural development which led to many development projects taking place in my constituency,” he said.

Dennis, who was on his way to Miri from Long Lama, said Adenan’s passing was also a huge loss to the Orang Ulu community who had looked up to him for development.

He pointed out that Adenan had approved the biggest project in Telang Usan – the Long Lama bridge which cost about RM70 million.

“It is the biggest project ever granted to Telang Usan and we are very thankful and honoured that Adenan was willing to approve the project,” he said.

Sharing the same view with Dennis was Marudi assemblyman and Assistant Minister for Local Government Datu Dr Penguang Manggil, who also described Adenan’s passing as a great loss.

“We lost a great man who had done a lot in a very short span of time, to the Iban community in particular and to Sarawak for his untiring efforts to fight for the rights of the people of Sarawak,” he said.

He also noted that Adenan’s passing was also a great loss to his constituency for the latter’s policy of rural development and his concerns for the welfare of the rural communities.
