Ops aimed at homeless in Limbang to be launched soon — Fatimah

KUCHING: Ministry of Welfare, Women and Community Wellbeing will launch their operation focussing on the homeless in Limbang division soon, before the end of this month.

According its minister Datuk Fatimah Abdullah, before this, the operation team has managed to rescue vagrants.

Fatimah pointed out that the ‘Homeless Ops’ was part of the state government’s efforts to address social problems such as vagrancy here.

“The operation started in Kuching on May 24 last year. The government just wants to help those who have no place to stay around the state,” she added.

From the past operations, vagrants have either been referred to Anjung Singgah, under the care of protection officers, Rumah Seri Kenangan, Health Department (for those suspected of having mental problems) or returned to their respective families.

Various government agencies are expected to take part in the operation.

“We are looking to launch this operation in other divisions where this operation has not been carried out yet such as Sarikei,” said Fatimah.

Apart from that, she also revealed that Sibu so far recorded the most cases of homelessness and vagrancy.

Fatimah was speaking to reporters during a charity event held at the Samarahan Rehabilitation Centre yesterday where she was the guest-of-honour.
