SIBU: Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Sibu has received a letter from Twinswood Sdn Bhd demanding the party to surrender the possession of three shophouse units in Kampung Dato, but the party said it would not move out.

SUPP Sibu branch management committee chairman Chieng Buong Toon said the party’s advocates received the demand from Twinswood Sdn Bhd through its advocates on Dec 16, last year.

He said the party was given one month until yesterday (Jan 16) to vacate and surrender the premises.

“Such demand from Twinswood Sdn Bhd is misconceived and totally unacceptable by all the five branches of SUPP in Sibu.

“We will not move out from the three shoplots and will continue to use them for all the activities of the party members,” he told reporters at a press conference yesterday.

The five branches of SUPP in Sibu are Nangka, Pelawan, Bawang Assan, Bukit Assek and Dudong.

On Dec 7, last year, the Court of Appeal in Kuching allowed the appeal by Twinswood Sdn Bhd against Sibu High Court’s decision which ordered the return of the units to SUPP on Aug 24, 2015.

It is learnt that the property at Kampung Dato consisting of three shophouse units of Lots 1291, 1292 and 1293 had been registered in the name of a private limited company Twinswood Sdn Bhd, with 50 shareholders since 1988.

These share holders are previously SUPP members.

SUPP filed a suit to claim the property from Twinswood on June 2, 2015 during their party’s anniversary day in Kuching.

Chieng added that the three shoplots were SUPP building for the last 27 years and were bought with their own money to be used as SUPP Sibu headquarters.

He urged all party members to stand united and to support the party to fight for their rights in the case, which is pending in Court.

“We are confident that the facts and history are on our side and we are confident that the truth and justice will prevail,” he said.

Asked what if Twinswood applied for court order demanding the party to vacate the place, he said the party would make the decision later.
