KUCHING: The Maternity and Child Clinic in Siniawan near Bau is in dilapidated condition and without proper facilities and maintenance.

The clinic, which was built more than a decade ago, has not been upgraded or provided with the necessary facilities even though many requests have been forwarded to the Ministry of Health.

In realising this problem, Serembu assemblyman Miro Simuh has decided to step in and provide assistance to the clinic through his minor rural project (MRP) grant of RM30,000.

“This clinic is in dilapidated state and needs urgent upgrade for the comfort of patients.

“I am allocating RM30,000 in MRP grant to upgrade some of the facilities such as the waiting area as well as electrical items like air-conditioners and lighting,” he said during a  visit to the clinic recently.

He also noted that space in the clinic was not enough to accommodate the 60 to 70 patients it receives daily from villages around Siniawan such as Jugan, Podam, Keranji, Tanjung Durian, Kopit, Peninjau, Sungai Pinang and Kampung Melayu.

Miro also disclosed that the clinic had been ‘adopted’ by Siniawan Buddhist Temple which would assist in buying items required by the clinic according to their capacity.

He also dropped by at Tanjung Durian Temple and Keranji Temple which need funds for repair works and thereafter pledged RM20,000 to Tanjung Durian Temple and RM10,000 to Keranji Temple.
