KOTA MARUDU: Only 26 families from one village are still taking shelter at the flood evacuation centre in Pitas since Tuesday.

According to the Civil Defence Department (JPAM) director, Lt. Col Mulliadi Al-Hamdi Ladin, 77 people from 26 families are still still taking shelter at SK Pekan Pitas in Kota Marudu as the water level in their village, Kampung Sibuang, have not subsided.

“Five other villages were also affected by the flood but not as bad as Kg Sibuang,” he said yesterday.

The five villages affected by the flood are, Kg Pandan, Kg Mendamai, Kg Pinapak, Kg Perupuk and Kg Nibang.

The water level at both Sungai Kebatasan and Sungai Bengkoka are at 6.07 meters and 4.00 meters respectively, just slightly over the danger level, said Mulliadi.

“We will continue to monitor the situation and the other villages from time to time to provide any assistance and to ensure no untoward incidents happen,” he said.
