MIRI: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Baram has high hopes that the new Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg would continue with the policies of former CM the late Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem, especially on rural development.

In a statement here yesterday, PKR Baram chairman Roland Engan said if Abang Johari were to continue Adenan’s policies, the people of Baram could expect to enjoy the rural development programmes laid out by the former CM.

“The people of Baram wish to see more changes taking place especially in the development of telecommunications, electricity and clean water supplies in every village across the Baram constituency and upgrading of all logging roads in Baram into better road that connects one village to another,” he said.

Roland said the people of Baram were also looking forward to the official announcement on the cancellation of the Baram Dam as Adenan has never made the announcement officially.

He stressed that moratorium for the dam project was not enough for the Baram people and that they wanted the project to be scrapped completely.

“The Native Customary Rights (NCR) is also an issue that need to be addressed, where the people want the state government especially under the new CM to issue land title under Section 18 to all villages in Baram,” Roland added.

He also called on the state government to build a Marudi bridge (crossing Baram river in Marudi) for the convenience of especially the Baram people.

Currently, those wanting to go to Marudi from Miri or vice-versa need to cross the Baram river using ferry.
